Do NOT enter Social Security numbers, Tax
IDs, or other private data anywhere but in the designated
fields on the eCRV form.
Under Minnesota law, this information is "private
data." It could be disclosed in public records if
entered in the wrong fields on the eCRV form. Criminal
penalties may apply if private data is improperly disclosed
because you did not follow these instructions.
Use of Information
Certificates of real estate value are public data.
State law requires this certificate to include:
- Name, address, and phone number of all buyers and
sellers.
- Social Security numbers or federal ID numbers of all
buyers and sellers.
- Location of the property.
If this information is not provided, the county
recorder may not accept the deed or other sale document, and
the property cannot be homesteaded for property tax purposes.
Social Security or federal ID numbers are required but are
not published with the other data on the certificate. These
numbers may be given to other government entities, as
allowed by law, to ensure that taxes related to the
transaction are paid correctly.
